Uptime Practice Case Study
For over a decade, The Tracy Law Group has ensure that they “provide creative, cost-effective solutions to the most challenging issues faced by businesses and individuals dealing with financial distress. They sought out a solution that provided better flexibility and secure, reliable backups.
Uptime Practice was a true miracle when the pandemic struck. Rather than having to scramble to find ways to access our work, it was right there. So on March 23, 2020, when the Governor entered the stay at home orders, we had absolutely no delays and were working immediately.”
Before Uptime Practice
The Tracy Law Group used an in-house server that was an old, dated method of running software. In fact, the warranty couldn’t be further renewed. All software was server-based, forcing the law firm to only operate on-premise. This lack of flexibility and subpar backup system caused strife for The Tracy Law Group. As the pandemic happened, the issues were only magnified.
The Solution
As Todd Tracy searched for the best cloud-hosting solutions, he was sold with Uptime’s dedication to the legal industry. Combined with outstanding support/setup and the restrictions caused by the pandemic, The Tracy Law Group and Uptime Legal began their working relationship to allow for access to their software from anywhere, anytime.
Q&A with Todd Tracy
Tell us about your Firm
“The Tracy Law Group PLLC is a small firm that specializes in bankruptcy and debtor/creditor matters. We are located in Seattle, Washington.”
What did you use prior to Uptime Practice?
“We had an in-house server that was 10+ years old. We had renewed the extended warranty so many times that they wouldn’t do it anymore. All software that we used in the firm was server-based.”
What were the biggest pain points of that system? What made you look for a new solution?
“The old system had a terrible tape backup system that over-wrote old data and was extremely difficult to restore from. We also knew that we would be relocating our offices and downsizing and did not want to have dedicated server real estate.
Even before the pandemic, I had been contemplating finding some type of cloud based system so that I, and my colleagues, could start with a form of hybrid office attendance, just to get out of the horrendous Seattle traffic.”
Ultimately, what made you choose Uptime Practice?
“I was sold on the fact that is legal centric. Other cloud-based systems did not understand the specific needs of a law firm.
I also really like the setup team. The final component is that we have two specific software packages that were, at the time, only server-based. The Uptime Support team has special access to PCLaw support.”
How has Uptime Practice streamlined or helped your law practice?
“Uptime Practice was a true miracle when the pandemic struck. Rather than having to scramble to find ways to access our work, it was right there. So on March 23, 2020, when the Governor entered the stay at home orders, we had absolutely no delays and were working immediately.”
What are your favorite features or aspects of Uptime Practice?
“It is the support team. We have server-based PCLaw. It is a royal pain, but I have actually had more answers from the Uptime Support team than I got from PCLaw. Finally, the ability to close something out at the office and then go to my home office and pick it right back up has been great.”
What would you say to another law firm considering Uptime Practice? – What advice or council would you give?
“For a law firm, security of the system is key. Due to the ethical obligations for confidentiality, make sure you are working with a vendor who provides that extremely high level of security.”
